The life of a reclusive academic collides with the story of a clandestine technology that can photograph the past.

Hiding away in lamp-lit New York City libraries, French academic Beatrice Courte (Anne Laure Sellier) uncovers a story long since laid to rest: a Benedictine monk claims to have created a machine through which one can see all of human history. Jack Auen and Kevin Walker's audacious debut film invites you along to discover and follow along page by page as Beatrice falls down the rabbit hole. Evoking the lush metropolitan aesthetics of films like Birth and Eyes Wide Shut, Chronovisor is a 16mm love letter to research, a film that feels as tactile, warm and addicting as a book you can't put down, or an intoxicating secret you can't share. Deceptively simple, intellectually thrilling, Chronovisor is a treat for anyone who can't wait to unearth their next conspiracy. -CH
