An utterly contemporary L.A. high school movie, Frédéric Da's defiantly handcrafted sophomore feature—shot entirely on an iPhone—is a disarmingly authentic, slippery and devastating portrait of teenage angst. Made with an impressive array of nonprofessional actors and shot on location at a campus in Los Angeles, the film follows Isaiah (Isaiah Brody) who films himself on an iPhone as he experiences the daily indignities of being in high school. With the feel of a raw found-footage documentary, the rigor of its conceptual gambit makes it a mesmerizing experience, and a marvel of resourceful filmmaking. -MG
