When a coastal Floridian town is threatened by an impending hurricane, a handful of locals feel strangely compelled to stay put in spite of a mandatory evacuation order.

The latest dreamy wonder from the L.A.-based Omnes Films collective, French-American filmmaker Alexandra Simpson’s feature debut is a sensuous, atmospheric Florida hangout movie, and an evergreen depiction of what it feels like to live amid impending environmental turbulence. Over the course of one night, after receiving a storm warning, a group of locals living in a coastal town all decide to remain in place for their own reasons, including a stormchaser (Taylor Benton), a country singer (Violet Strickland) and an aspiring stand-up comic (Jordan Cooley). With a patient yet firmly controlled style, Simpson evokes Chantal Akerman’s Toute une nuit as it floats between these characters at an inflection point, attuned to the variations and patient rhythms of everyday life.
